Water's Edge Palm Runner

Description

This mat depicts the connection between the canoe and the water it rests on. The thin line represents this boundary and the paddlers are reflected across it.

These traditional palm fiber mats originate from a fishing village in the swamplands of the Magdalena River. Local palm fronds are carefully sliced into strips, dyed using only natural pigments, and dried in the sun. A women’s cooperative then weaves these strips into designs—both traditional and modern—often reflecting their life on the water.
