Resting Canoe Palm Mat
This small mat shows canoes resting together on the shore. Hand woven in the small fishing village of Chimichagua, Colombia.
Size: approx. 27” x 20”
Material: Estera palm, natural dyes
Handmade in Chimichagua, Colombia
These traditional palm fiber mats originate from a fishing village in the swamplands of the Magdalena River. Local palm fronds are carefully sliced into strips, dyed using only natural pigments, and dried in the sun. A women’s cooperative then weaves these strips into designs—both traditional and modern—often reflecting their life on the water.
